PROMOTING CARICOM/CARIFORUM FOOD SECURITY

Welcome to the homepage of the FAO Project "Promoting CARICOM/CARIFORUM Food Security" (GTFS/RLA/141/ITA). A project funded by the Government of Italy and implemented by the FAO. It falls under the CARIFORUM Regional Special Programme for Food Security (CRSPFS), which is a part of the FAO Special Programme for Food Security (SPFS) - the FAO flagship initiative for reaching the goal of halving the number of hungry people in the world by the year 2015.

The fundamental goal of the Project is to improve the food security situation of the CARIFORUM states, both individually and as a whole, by increasing the availability and access to adequate quantities of safe, quality-assured food products to food insecure and poor rural communities across the region.

The project includes activities at the national level that seek to demonstrate how farm productivity can be improved through efficient, effective and sustainable water resource-related production systems (vertical component) and at the regional level activities related to trade negotiations, food security assessment, policies and marketing (horizontal component).

The Project started in November 2003 and is expected to run until the end of 2007.
