Technical Cooperation

One of the main functions of the FAO Regional Office is to provide Technical Cooperation for agricultural and rural development to its member countries, translating the expertise of the organization in agriculture, food and nutrition, fisheries, forestry, livestock and other areas of interest to FAO, into practical applications which are implemented in the countries through the work of its Technical Officers in the field, multiple projects and programmes, and of its participation in seven technical cooperation networks at regional and subregional level.

FAO responds to the needs of its member countries, combining its vast experience, the financing of donors and the work with different counterparts, to produce sound results in support of rural development, food security and farming activities of the countries. The Technical Cooperation implements and coordinates FAO´s field activities, working closely and coordinated with its technical departments at Headquarters in Rome, FAO Representations in the countries, as well as with its governmental and academic counterparts, the other agencies of the United Nations System and hundreds of economic and social organizations involved with the rural and agricultural world. Likewise, through its technical cooperation work, FAO promotes a greater investment in agriculture, and assists the countries in the formulation and execution of policies and strategies in all its areas of work.

In this way, the Regional Office guarantees that the activities, projects and technical cooperation programmes under execution are an effective response to the current challenges of the agrarian and rural sector.
