FAO provides technical assistance to member countries to develop and  implement pest management programs. FAO’s assistance is especially requested when the pests are priority transboundry regional pests, such as fruit flies, coffee berry borer, coconut lethal yellowing, and Asian soybean rust. These pests cause enormous direct losses through in crops. In addition, they are of great importance because they may create restrictions on trade, as countries without the pests restrict imports in an effort to prevent introduction of a quarantine pest. 

The FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean has a long history of supporting programmes of pest management in the region, including these projects (all reports in their original language only):
