NGO/SCO
During the last decades, the role played by Non-Governmental Organizations and other Civil Society Organizations (NGO/SCO) in the development of the rural world and the fight against hunger is ever more important, mainly due to the great knowledge of realities in situ, its traveling capacity and permanent contact with rural actors.
Acknowledging the role of NGOs/SCOs and to avail and contribute to the analysis and exchange of information among these organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean, the FAO Regional Office has created a space for debate and exchange of information in specialized matters related to food security, rural and farming development, forest and fishing activities and other issues related to them in the countries of the Region.
FAO focuses its cooperation strategy with Non-Governmental Organizations and Civil Society Organizations in four fields: exchange and analysis of information, dialogue on policy matters, field programme and funding sources, being the collaboration with civil society a process of permanent interaction.
