Livestock
FAO activities of Animal Production and Health in the region, contribute to a sustainable livestock development, animal health, food safety of animal origin and, the conservation and use of animal genetic resources. Its priority lies in the defeat of transboundary animal diseases, in the framework of global and regional strategic alliances with active participation of public and private sectors for the development of prevention, control and eradication plans and programmes in the different countries. Likewise, the programme supports the development of livestock policies, institutional capacity building and the access of the small, medium and big producer to knowledge, information and technologies, to enhance the competitiveness of production systems and pave the way for the introduction of regional livestock products into new markets.
