Rural Development is one of the key areas in the work of FAO. It is concerned with improving the living and working considitions of the people who live in rural areas, grouped in the family-based production and consumption units, either on or off the farm. As such, Rural development deals with all the institutions and activities which directly impact on the livelihoods of these people.
