Agriculture

The Agriculture and Consumer Protection Group of the FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean is composed by four internal divisions addressing agriculture and rural development challenges with a multidisciplinary approach, combining their resources to attend the demands of member countries and FAO’s global and regional priorities.

The divisions which integrate this priority group are: Animal Production and Health (AGA); Nutrition and Consumer Protection (AGN); Plant Production and Protection (AGP); and Rural Infrastructure and Agroindustries (AGS).

Combining efforts, they focus on issues such as production of crops and good agricultural practices, protection of crops and handling of agro-chemicals; urban and peri-urban agriculture; animal health and production; transboundary diseases; animal and plant genetic resources; agricultural and livestock biotechnology; nutritional safety and security; rural finances; biofuels, among other priority areas, by means of a series of projects, networks and activities at local, national and regional level.
