The Agriculture and Consumer Protection Group of the FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean is composed by four internal divisions addressing agriculture and rural development challenges with a multidisciplinary approach, combining their resources to attend the demands of member countries and FAO’s global and regional priorities. The divisions which integrate this priority group are: Animal Production and Health (AGA); Nutrition and Consumer Protection (AGN); Plant Production and Protection (AGP); and Rural Infrastructure and Agroindustries (AGS). Combining efforts, they focus on issues such as production of crops and good agricultural practices, protection of crops and handling of agro-chemicals; urban and peri-urban agriculture; animal health and production; transboundary diseases; animal and plant genetic resources; agricultural and livestock biotechnology; nutritional safety and security; rural finances; biofuels, among other priority areas, by means of a series of projects, networks and activities at local, national and regional level.
